Thick, Soft and Juicy Hirekatsu!

Only two minutes from Suidobashi station, you will find an established Katsu restaurant “Katsukichi”, near the Tokyo Dome.

If you ever happen to be craving katsu in this area, this is definitely the place to go!

The restaurant is open both for lunch and dinner. This time, I visited them for dinner.

I got there a little before 17:00 which is their opening hour… and there is already a line!

At 17:00 sharp, the lights at the entrance are switched on, and the customers are let inside. One group at a time, the staff guide us to our tables.

The interior has the Meiji era (1868-1912) feel. Each table is pretty big. Nice and spacious!

After I get to my table and place my order, the waiter brings me a salad and a plate of pickles. Refills are free for both.

I serve myself kimchi and other pickled vegetables. For salad dressing, I used their original Japanese style one.

I have to wait some time for the katsu to arrive, as they carefully fry each piece for about fifteen minutes, but the waiting time doesn’t bother me as long as I have my delicious salad and pickles!

The katsu I ordered this time is Hirekatsu (pork filet cutlet). I definitely recommend Hirekatsu at this place! The soft and juicy katsu with very little fat is absolutely delicious. You are also able to choose the grams of the katsu, depending on how hungry you are.

During dinnertime, the restaurant offers small dishes to go with alcoholic beverages, other than set meals and donburi (big rice bowl with katsu topping). I recommend this place to those of you who like to drink!

Other than the set meal, I ordered the Kani Tomato Salad (crab and tomato) to share with my friend.

I cut into the tomato, and a salad of crab, cucumber and cabbage comes bursting out!

A sumptuous salad with the rich taste of crab. Delicious!

And finally, here comes the katsu!

150g katsu set for \2500. Don’t forget to have it with the special sauce!

For rice, you have two choices: regular white rice or Aojiso (green shiso herb) rice. Again, refills are free.

It comes with red dashi (stock) miso soup as well.

The pork is covered in breadcrumbs and thoroughly deep-fried at a low temperature. The outside is crunchy, while the inside remains soft. It’s really tasty!

Because the batter is light, the katsu doesn’t take in extra grease from the oil. You won’t have to worry about it lying heavy in the stomach afterwards.

I made the right decision choosing the Aojiso rice. It’s nice and refreshing! I can tell that they are using high quality rice.

Delicious meal of great quality!

I enjoyed all the extra dishes that came with the katsu as well. Very satisfying!

If you want to call the staff, ring this bell by each table.

It matches the Meiji theme of the restaurant very well. I love the calm and old-fashioned atmosphere of this restaurant!

I highly recommend Katsukichi, if you are looking to eat around Suidobashi!
